Erect annual weed of waste places with slender pods and small yellow flowers; native range: waste ground and field margins across the Mediterranean, West and South Asia. Globally recognized as khubkalan in Persian, khaksi in Arabic, khaksi in Hindi, and hedge mustard, khaksi seed in English. The part used is seed. Minute reddish-brown seeds, pungent and slightly bitter, turning mucilaginous when steeped in water.
