Rugosa rose (Rosa rugosa), of the Rosaceae family. Hardy suckering shrub rose with wrinkled leaves and large purple-red flowers; native range: the coasts of eastern China, Korea and Japan. Globally recognized as mei gui hua (玫瑰花) in Chinese, ward (ورد) in Arabic, and rugosa rose, beach rose in English. The part used is the flower bud. Deep rose-purple buds, richly and sweetly fragrant, sweet at first then faintly bitter.
