Patrinia (Patrinia scabiosifolia), of the Caprifoliaceae family. Erect perennial of grassy hillsides bearing flat clusters of tiny yellow flowers; native range: China, Mongolia, Siberia and Japan. Globally recognized as bai jiang cao (敗醬草) in Chinese, and golden lace, dahurian patrinia in English. The part used is whole herb with root. Dried aerial parts with a strong, disagreeable fermented-bean odour.
