German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), of the Asteraceae (Compositae) family. Sweet-scented annual with feathery leaves and hollow conical receptacles; native range: Europe and western Asia; naturalised widely as a cornfield and waysides annual. Globally recognized as wild chamomile, scented mayweed, blue chamomile in English, babunaj (بابونج) in Arabic, and babuna in Urdu. The part used is flower-heads (dried). Small white-rayed daisies round a golden dome, breathing a warm apple-sweet aroma, the taste aromatic and faintly bitter.
