Egg shell (Gallus gallus domesticus), of the Phasianidae (Aves) family. The domestic hen — the shell is the calcareous case the bird lays around its egg; native range: the domestic hen, kept throughout India and worldwide. Globally recognized as kukkuṭāṇḍa tvak in Sanskrit, ande ka chhilka in Hindi, and hen's egg shell in English. The part used is the shell, cleaned of its membrane. A thin, brittle, chalky-white to buff shell, faintly porous, gritty on the tooth and practically tasteless, grinding to a fine white powder.
