Chicken gizzard lining (Gallus gallus domesticus), of the Phasianidae (Aves) family. The domestic fowl; the gizzard a thick muscular mill lined within by a tough horny membrane; native range: the domestic fowl, kept worldwide; the drug is a butcher's by-product wherever chickens are dressed. Globally recognized as ji nei jin (雞內金) in Chinese, post-e-sangdana murgh in Urdu, chicken gizzard lining, gizzard membrane in English, and Endothelium Corneum Gigeriae Galli in Latin. The part used is the inner membrane of the gizzard, peeled off and dried. A thin, crumpled, horny sheet, yellow to yellow-brown or greenish, corrugated in stiff ridges, translucent at the edge and brittle when dry, snapping cleanly; slightly sweet and mild, with a faint fowl smell.
