Small crooked deciduous tree with bilobed leaves and drooping flower-racemes; native range: dry deciduous forests and scrub of India and Southeast Asia. Globally recognized as kachnal · post-e-kachnal (the bark) in Urdu, jhinjheri · bidi-leaf tree in Hindi, and bidi-leaf bauhinia · mountain ebony in English. The part used is stem bark. A rough greyish bark, astringent and bitter to the tongue.
