Adenophora (Adenophora stricta), of the Campanulaceae family. Erect perennial with nodding bell-shaped blue flowers; native range: hills and grassland of eastern and central China. Globally recognized as nan sha shen (南沙参) in Chinese, and southern ladybell root in English. The part used is root. Light, spongy pale root, sweetish, with copious milky juice when fresh.
